Workshop: Introduction to Guided Reading

This two-hour workshop is designed for participants with limited guided reading experience. The workshop will introduce participants to the foundations of a guided reading lesson plan. Using the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System, participants will learn how to place students in appropriate guided reading group, plan an effective introduction, and script targeted questions throughout a guided reading lesson. Additionally, participants will develop deeper understanding about key strategic actions to target during a guided reading lesson.
Upon competing of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Define and identify strategic actions in the Fountas and Pinnell guided reading framework.
- Plan and practice a strong guided reading introduction.
- Plan and practice implementing a strong guided reading conference.
