Introduction to Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) for Grades K-5

In this 1.5 day session, participants will work with the CGI frameworks for problems and strategies to learn how students understand mathematics and to guide instructional decisions. Attendees will (a) categorize problems according to mathematical demands and recognize student responses and cognitive development; (b) facilitate classroom discussion that strengthens children’s ability to reason about arithmetic; and (c) design and sequence problems meeting the Common Core math standards for K-5.
