Responsive Classroom is an evidence-based education approach associated with greater teacher effectiveness, higher student achievement, and improved school climate. Responsive Classroom practices help educators develop competencies in four key domains—each of which enables and enriches the others: Engaging Academics, Positive Community, Effective Management, and Developmental Awareness. During this session, participants will learn the philosophy of Responsive Classroom, identify key practices for teachers using Responsive Classroom, and learn about the successes and challenges Ascend teachers and leaders have had in moving from a proscriptive approach in managing student discipline to a responsive approach.
Presenter: Brandon Sorlie – Chief Academic Officer, Ascend Learning
