Extending Place Value, Fractions & Decimals

Participants will explore concrete, representational and abstract models to extend students’ understanding of the counting patterns in whole numbers beyond 100 and develop fractional concepts. Using a variety of models including base ten blocks, place value disks, fraction bars, area models and model drawing, participants will extend their content knowledge while learning how to scaffold student understanding of these concepts.
Attendess will unpack common misconceptions and foundational concepts in order to better support their students’ needs. With that knowledge, attendees will leave the workshop with the ability to pair simple, concise language and a variety of representations to make difficult concepts more concrete.
